ammonites
Kuanti Formation, Qujing County, Eastern Yunnan Province (Silurian of China)

Where: Yunnan, China (25.5° N, 103.8° E: paleocoordinates 8.0° N, 130.7° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Kuanti Formation, Ludlow (422.9 - 418.7 Ma)

• Except where otherwise stated, ref. 7624 uses Lower Silurian as equivalent to Llandovery, Middle Silurian as equivalent to Wenlock, and Upper Silurian as equivalent to Ludlow plus Pridoli. Chen Jun-yuan et al. (1981) extended formation into the Wenlockian, but fossils suggest Ludlow age.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; argillaceous siltstone and shale

• Correlation chart indicates BA 1-3 position.
• "It consists mainly of yellow-green, argillacoues siltstone, shale with intercalated gray limestone in the lower part, and purple-red to yellow silty shale and mudstone in the upper part. The total thickness is 506.5 m."
