Awaynat Wanin type sect., Aouinet Ouenine III Fmn., sample TB902 (Devonian of Libya)

Where: Libya (28.1° N, 13.0° E: paleocoordinates 47.0° S, 32.5° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Aouinet Ouenine III Formation, Frasnian (383.7 - 376.1 Ma)

• Formation said to be "Frasnian s.l.". Top of formation contains nodular limestone with conodonts that indicate Frasnian-Famennian transition. This sample interpreted as upper Frasnian, on basis of occurrence of Uniconus livnensis and Alternatus sp. in overlying sediments.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; burrowed, ferruginous sandstone and claystone

• "Characteristic 'flyschoid' textures with load casts, burrow casts, microripples, convolute laminations and common Bifungites reflect a deeper prodeltaic to shelf environment."
• Formation as a whole: "sandstone beds interbedded with siltstones and claystone levels...about 60 m thick" This sample "occurs in a ferruginous sandstone" See also geology comments.

Collection methods: Focus of monograph is brachiopods and bivalves, but other elements are sometimes mentioned in passing.
