ammonites
Esperanza, Atlantico (Miocene of Colombia)

Where: Bolivar, Colombia (10.4° N, 75.5° W: paleocoordinates 9.8° N, 72.9° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Middle Miocene (16.0 - 11.6 Ma)

• Middle Miocene age based on correlation with other Caribbean fossil assemblages and by stratigraphic relations. Thickness in the Zambrano-Carmen section may be as much as 5,000 ft. Fossils are stratigraphically lower than those from Jesus del Monte.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; unlithified sandstone

• No paleonenvironmental data reported, though from apparently from shallow-water siliciclastic sediments. Rocks dip to the SE monoclinally away from the older sediments forming the folds of the central range of hills. From strike ridge of sandstone.
• Sandstone. Unlithified based on observation of figured specimens.

Size class: macrofossils
