When: Kaili Formation, Taijangian (513.0 - 505.0 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Kaili Fm, which overlies the Tsinghsutung Fm (Duyunian), and is overlain by the Jialao Fm (Taijiangian). THICKNESS: From succession with formation of c. 160 m thick. AGE: Duyunian stage, upper Early Cambrian. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From beds 10-22, which equate to the Ovatocepgalus indicus zone of the lower Kaili Formation.

Environment/lithology: offshore shelf; lithified, gray, green, silty mudstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Offshore carbonate setting. Low energy, turbidity currents, and suspension sediments in outer shelf setting, in depths of 150-200 m. Some evidence for current alignment consistent with turbidites, but commonly orientation suggests quiet water and suspension sedimentation.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Grayish-green silty, calcareous mudstones intercalated with dark gray interlayered mudstones. LITHIFICATION: Lithified on the basis of figured specimens and taphonomy.
