When: Craie de Ciply Formation, Early/Lower Maastrichtian (70.6 - 65.5 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Craie de Ciply, which unconformably overlies the Craie de Spiennes (Late Campanian), and is unconformably overlain by the Tuffeau de Saint-Symphorien (Late Maastrichtian). AGE: Early Maastrichtian, on the basis of ammonite and belemnite biostratigraphy. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Collection is a composite of the entire formation.

Environment/lithology: lithified, phosphatic, brown, gray, calcareous, cherty/siliceous sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Shallow marine carbonate setting.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Gray to brownish calcarenite consisting of many phosphatic grains in a chalky matrix and generally with flint bands. LITHIFICATION: Lithified on the basis of facies description.

Preservation: cast, mold/impression
