Sister taxa: Cryptocephalus minusculus, Cryptocephalus pitoni

Type specimen: 4003(4004), an exoskeleton. Its type locality is Petrified fish cut (Scudder collection), which is in a Bridgerian lacustrine - large diatomite/shale in the Green River Formation of Wyoming.
