Sister taxa: Cixius proavus, Cixius vitreus

Type specimen: 38, a tegmen (nearly perfect). Its type locality is Petrified fish cut (Scudder collection), which is in a Bridgerian lacustrine - large diatomite/shale in the Green River Formation of Wyoming.
