Mantellisaurus was named by Paul (2007).
It was assigned to Iguanodontidae by Sánchez-Hernández et al. (2007) and Paul (2007); to Hadrosauriformes by McDonald et al. (2010) and McDonald et al. (2010); to Hadrosauroidea by Wang et al. (2011); and to Iguanodontoidea by Paul (2008) and Ramírez-Velasco et al. (2012).
