Pseudothurmannia was named by Spath (1923) [Sepkoski's age data: K Haut-u K Barr]. Its type is Ammonites angulicostatus.

It was reranked as Crioceratites (Pseudothurmannia) by Etayo-Serna (1968).

It was assigned to Crioceratites by Etayo-Serna (1968); to Ammonoidea by Imlay (1960) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Crioceratitidae by Klein et al. (2007).
