Protaneuretus succineus was named by Wheeler (1915). Its type specimen is a 139, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber, Konigsberg collection, which is in a Lutetian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.
