Dromatherium was named by Emmons (1857). It is not extant. Its type is Dromatherium sylvestre.
It was assigned to Mammalia by Osborn (1886); to Dromatheriidae by Lydekker (1894); to Cynodontia by Hopson and Kitching (1972); and to Chiniquodontidae by Carroll (1988).
