Taxonomy
Alostera was named by Fox (1989). It is not extant. Its type is Alostera saskatchewanensis.
It was assigned to Cimolesta by Fox (1989) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Zhelestidae by Archibald (1998), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004), Wible et al. (2007) and Wible et al. (2009).
