Promioclaenus was named by Trouessart (1904). It is not extant.
It was assigned to Mioclaeninae by Zack et al. (2005); to Mioclaenidae by Trouessart (1904), McKenna and Bell (1997), Archibald (1998) and Burger (2007); and to Hyopsodontidae by Dehm and Oettingen-Spielberg (1958), Chow et al. (1973), Williamson and Weil (2011) and Scott et al. (2013).
