It was recombined as Euelephas imperator by Osborn (1918); it was recombined as Archidiskodon imperator by Osborn (1924); it was recombined as Mammuthus (Archidiskodon) imperator by Haury et al. (1953); it was synonymized subjectively with Mammuthus columbi by Kurten and Anderson (1980); it was recombined as Mammuthus imperator by Aguirre (1969), Maglio (1973), Puckette and Scholtz (1974), Miller (1976), Madden (1983), Madden (1986), Dalquest and Schultz (1992), Shoshani and Tassy (1996) and Christiansen (2007).
