Taxonomy

Crocodyliformes was named by Hay (1930) [also attributed to Hay 1930]. It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Wings et al. (2010), Turner and Sertich (2010) and Georgi and Krause (2010) and Nesbitt (2011).

It was reranked as the order Crocodyliformes by Böhme (2010).

It was assigned to Crocodylomorpha by Averianov (2001), Wings et al. (2010) and Georgi and Krause (2010); to Reptilia by Böhme (2010); to Crocodylomorpha by Jouve (2005) and Turner and Sertich (2010); to Archosauria by O'Connor et al. (2010); and to Crocodilomorphi by Gauthier et al. (1989), Wu and Brinkman (1993), Molnar et al. (2002), Tykoski et al. (2002), Rogers (2003), Pol et al. (2004), Carvalho et al. Synonyms

Microchampsa scutata was named by Young (1951). Its type specimen is IVPP V87, a set of postcrania (Eleven vertebrae and associated osteoderms and ribs), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Huangchiatien, Lufeng, which is in a Sinemurian terrestrial horizon in the Lufeng Formation of China.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Luo and Wu (1994).
Kemkemia was named by Cau and Maganuco (2009).

It was considered a nomen dubium by Lio et al. (2012).

It was assigned to Neotheropoda by Cau and Maganuco (2009).
Kemkemia auditorei was named by Cau and Maganuco (2009). Its type specimen is MSNM V6408, a set of vertebrae (Distal caudal vertebra), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is East of Taouz, which is in a Cenomanian channel sandstone in the Kem Kem Formation of Morocco.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Lio et al. (2012).
Microchampsa was named by Young (1951). It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Luo and Wu (1994).

It was assigned to Protosuchia by Simmons (1965); and to Thecodontia by Carroll (1988).
Protosuchia was named by Mook (1934).

It was reranked as the infraorder Protosuchia by Walker (1970); it was reranked as the unranked clade Protosuchia by Wu and Sues (1996); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Crocodyliformes by Brochu et al. (2009).
