Synonyms

Iliosuchus was named by Huene (1932). Its type is Iliosuchus incognitus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Megalosaurus by Romer (1956), Romer (1966) and Steel (1970); it was considered a nomen dubium by Carrano et al. (2012).

It was assigned to Theropoda by Galton (1976), Galton (1977) and Carroll (1988); to Megalosauridae by Kurzanov (1989); to Carnosauria by Molnar et al. (1990); and to Tetanurae by Holtz et al. (2004).
Iliosuchus incognitus was named by Huene (1932). Its type specimen is BMNH R.83, a set of postcrania (ilium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Stonesfield (iliosuchus type), which is in a Bathonian marginal marine sandstone in the Taynton Limestone Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Iliosuchus.

It was recombined as Megalosaurus incognitus by Steel (1970); it was considered a nomen dubium by Carrano et al. (2012).
