Cryptosaurus eumerus
Taxonomy
Cryptosaurus eumerus was named by Seeley (1875). Its type specimen is OUM J.46882, a limb element (femur), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Great Gransden brick pit, which is in an Oxfordian marine claystone in the Ampthill Clay Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Cryptodraco, Cryptosaurus.
It was recombined as Cryptodraco eumerus by Lydekker (1889), Woodward and Sherborn (1890), Lydekker (1904), Delair (1960), Galton (1980) and Galton (1983); it was considered a nomen dubium by Ford (2000), Carpenter (2001) and Vickaryous et al. (2004).
