Qantassaurus was named by Rich and Vickers-Rich (1999). Its type is Qantassaurus intrepidus.
It was assigned to Euornithopoda by Norman et al. (2004); to Hypsilophodontidae by Rich and Vickers-Rich (1999) and Hocknull and Cook (2008); and to Ornithopoda by Agnolin et al. (2010).
