Ambondro was named by Flynn et al. (1999). It is not extant. Its type is Ambondro mahabo.
It was assigned to Tribosphenida by Flynn et al. (1999); and to Australosphenida by Luo et al. (2001), Rauhut et al. (2002), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004) and Martin and Rauhut (2005).
