Pautut Locality PRP (Cretaceous of Greenland)

Where: Greenland (70.3° N, 54.5° W: paleocoordinates 55.3° N, 14.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Pautut Formation, Cretaceous (145.5 - 65.5 Ma)

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; siltstone

• Backwater marine bay with a fossil plant assemblage dominated by angiosperm species that, except for a few wide ranging species do no toccur in other fossil horizons at Pautut (PRP) The leaves in these beds appear to be derived mostly from inland levee vegetation. Scheklar et. al. mentined sandstone bodies in the western part of teh marine conditions for these beds. This is supported by the presence of leaves in the PRP beds with encrusting bryozoan species closely related to modern species that occupy brackish water conditions. However the number of other fully marine species in teh PRP and other Pautut beds indicates fluctuating salinities within the basin.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: original carbon

Collection methods: surface (in situ),
