Villany locality 3 (Pliocene of Hungary)

Where: Barany, Hungary (45.9° N, 18.5° E: paleocoordinates 45.8° N, 18.4° E)

• Villany 3 is the type locality of the Villanyian fauna, and is in the Upper Villanyian. Late Pliocene, MN17.

Environment/lithology:

• 'The site is situated in the northern wall of the eastern end of the ridge quarry. A cleft, on the average 1m wide and lying in a direction east to west, cuts through the Lower Malm Oxfordian limestone, and is filled with red sediment cemented by secondary calcite formation.'
• a 1m wide cleft running from east to west, infilled with red sediment cemented by secondary calcite formation.

Collection methods: Kormos collected at this locality from the 1910s until 1939.
