Cebulovica (Paleocene of Slovenia)

Where: Slovenia, Slovenia (45.7° N, 14.0° E: paleocoordinates 36.2° N, 12.8° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Upper Member (Trstelj Formation), Thanetian (58.7 - 55.8 Ma)

• Corresponding to the Operculina limestones of Pavlovec (1963) and to the upper part of the Miliolid Limestone of Stache (1889). Based on the associated larger foraminifera the age of this collection correspond to the SBZ 4 (Late Thanetian)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: slope or ramp reef; lithified, tabular reef rocks

• Distal mid-ramp setting affected by storms and currents, likely periodically exposed to enhanced turbidity and nutrient levels
• the microbial-coral carbonates form massive metric-thick mounds (up to 6 m thick) exposed over a length of 70 m, alternated to foralgal packstones and wackestones.

•Čebulovica mounds represents either a superposition of several incipient mounds overlain by the foralgal facies or a lateral mound facies representing a transition between the mound core and the lateral deposits.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: recrystallized, original aragonite, replaced with calcite

Collection methods: bulk, peel or thin section,
