ammonites
Sanaegol locality - SN835 (Ordovician of South Korea)

Also known as near Taebaeg (Taebaek), Taebaeksan Basin

Where: Kangweondo (Gangwon-do), South Korea (37.1° N, 128.9° E: paleocoordinates 5.7° S, 132.5° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Jigunsan Formation (Taebaek Group), Llanvirn (466.0 - 460.9 Ma)

• Bed 835 is in the "Middle Member" of the Jigunsan Fm. according to fig. 2 in Yun (1999). The Jigunsan Formation (formerly spelled Chikunsan or Chigunsan Formation) is a subunit of the Taebaek Group and is Llanvirnian in age (see Kwon, 2005, Geosci. J. 9(4)).

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal ramp; shale and nodular limestone

• The deposits of the middle part of the Jigusan Fm. at the Maggol section appear to match facies association 3 of Woo & Chough (2007, Geosci. J. 11(4)), interpreted to represent a deep subtidal ramp environment within an early highstand systems tract.
• "The Jigunsan Formation is a relatively thin (45-100 m in thickness) fossiliferous sequence of interbedded shale and subordinate limestone." (Niko, 2000, Paleont. Res. 6(1)). The lithology of bed 835 is "alternation of shale and calcareous nodular bed" according to stratigraphic log in fig. 2 in Yun (1999).

Size class: macrofossils
