Fagesia was named by Pervinquiére (1907) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-u K Turo-l Sepkoski's reference number: 716]. Its type is Olcostephanus superstes.
It was assigned to Vascoceratidae by Zaborski (1987) and Kennedy (1994); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Vascoceratinae by Chancellor (1982), Cobban and Hook (1983), Kennedy et al. (1987), Kennedy and Simmons (1991) and Ifrim and Stinnesbeck (2007).
