It was reranked as the unranked clade Aetosauria by Parker (2007), Schoch (2007) and Nesbitt (2011).
It was assigned to Parasuchia by Lull (1915) and Lull (1917); to Pseudosuchia by Gauthier and Padian (1985); to Thecodontia by Carroll (1988); to Rauisuchiformes by Parrish (1993); to Crocodylotarsi by Heckert and Lucas (1998), Lucas et al. (1998) and Heckert and Lucas (2000); to Pseudosuchia by Parker (2007) and Schoch (2007); and to Suchia by Sereno and Arcucci (1990), Sereno (1991), Long and Murry (1995), Weinbaum and Hungerbühler (2007) and Nesbitt (2011).
