Ensifera was named by Chopard (1920). It is extant.

It was assigned to Saltatoria by Zeuner (1941); to Orthoneoptera by Kukalova-Peck and Lawrence (2004); and to Orthoptera by Riek (1954), Riek (1955), Zeuner (1962), Sharov (1968), Riek (1974), Whalley (1985), Papier et al. (1997), Wappler (2001), Gorochov et al. (2006) and Eades et al. (2012).

Synonyms

Kulmbachiellon fragile was named by Kuhn (1938). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Kulmbach, which is in an Olenekian terrestrial slate in Germany.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Zeuner (1939).
Locustopsites gigantea was named by Theobald (1937). Its type specimen is Mus. Marseille C 10, a wing (fragment of hindwing & 2 complete forewings), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Célas Gard, which is in an Eocene lacustrine marl in France.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Zeuner (1942).
Liadolocusta auscultans was named by Handlirsch (1906). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Forthampton, which is in a Rhaetian marine horizon in the Lilstock Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Liadolocusta.

Acridites liasinus was named by Heer (1865). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Insektenmergel, Schambelen, Aargau, which is in a Hettangian offshore claystone in the Insektenmergel Formation of Switzerland.

Gryllacris propinqua was named by Deichmüller (1886). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Eichstätt [Dresdener Museum collection], which is in a Tithonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Solnhofener Plattenkalk Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Pseudogryllacris propinqua by Handlirsch (1906); it was considered a nomen dubium by Zeuner (1939).
