Taxonomy

Otarion was named by Zenker (1833) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-l D Eife Sepkoski's reference number: 1106]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Otarionidae.

It was assigned to Otarionidae by Whittington (1941); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aulacopleuridae by Jell and Adrain (2003).
