Felis yagouaroundi was named by Geoffroy (1803). It is extant.
It was recombined as Herpailurus yagouaroundi by Severtzov (1858), Weigel (1961), Ewer (1973), Wilson and Reeder (1993) and de Oliveira (1998); it was recombined as Leopardus yagouaroundi by Hulbert and Pratt (1998); it was recombined as Puma yagouaroundi by Johnson et al. (2006).
