It was synonymized subjectively with Ophidia by Romer (1966); it was reranked as the unranked clade Serpentes by Lee and Caldwell (2000), Augé and Rage (2006) and Wilson et al. (2010).
It was assigned to Reptilia by Estes and Berberian (1970) and Thurmond and Jones (1981); to Scleroglossa by Estes et al. (1988); to Ophidia by Lee and Caldwell (2000); to Ophidia by Lee and Scanlon (2002); to Reptilia by Augé and Rage (2006); and to Squamata by Benton (1985), Carroll (1988), Holman et al.
