Dyrosauridae was named by de Steffano (1903). It was considered monophyletic by Jouve (2009).
It was assigned to Mesosuchia by Carroll (1988); to Mesoeucrocodylia by Hastings et al. (2011); to Tethysuchia by Andrade et al. (2011); and to Neosuchia by Jouve et al. (2005), Jouve et al. (2006), Gasparini et al. (2006), Jouve (2009), Martin et al. (2010) and Bronzati et al. (2012).
