Taxonomy
Oreamnos was named by Rafinesque (1817) [possibly named as a subgenus of Mazama]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Bovidae by Rafinesque (1817) and Carroll (1988); and to Caprinae by Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008).

Synonyms
  • Aplocerus was named by Hamilton-Smith (1827).

    It was synonymized subjectively with Oreamnos by Frick (1927), Hall and Kellogg (1955) and Hall and Kelson (1959).
  • Haplocerus was named by Wagner (1844).

    It was synonymized subjectively with Oreamnos by Frick (1937), Hall and Kellogg (1955) and Hall and Kelson (1959).
