It was assigned to Bradypidae by Gray (1825); to Mylomorpha by Ameghino (1885) and Cope (1889); to Megatheriidae by Lydekker (1894) and Carroll (1988); and to Megatheriinae by Gaudin (1995), Pujos and Salas (2004) and Zurita et al. (2004).
