Halichoerus grypus

Taxonomy
Phoca grypus was named by Fabricius (1791). It is extant. It is the type species of Halichoerus.

It was recombined as Halichoerus (Halichoerus) grypus by Trouessart (1898) and Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Halichoerus grypus by Nilsson (1847), Gray (1850), Gill (1866), Gray (1866), Allen (1880), Turner (1912), Scheffer and Rice (1963), Koretsky (2001), Demere et al. (2003) and Davis et al. (2004).
