Amphibamidae was named by Moodie (1912) [Attributed to Cope (1875) in this paper and only later (Moodie, 1916, Carnegie Inst. Washington Publ. 238) formally proposed as a new family. Authority is often cited to be Moodie (1909 or 1910).]. It is not extant. It was considered paraphyletic by Anderson et al. (2008) and monophyletic by Fröbisch and Reisz (2008) and Schoch (2013).
It was assigned to Microsauria by Moodie (1912) and Moodie (1916); to Dissorophoidea by Anderson et al. (2008), Fröbisch and Reisz (2008) and Anderson et al. (2008); and to Dissorophoidea by Schoch and Rubidge (2005), Bourget and Anderson (2011) and Schoch (2013).
It was assigned to Microsauria by Moodie (1912) and Moodie (1916); to Dissorophoidea by Anderson et al. (2008), Fröbisch and Reisz (2008) and Anderson et al. (2008); and to Dissorophoidea by Schoch and Rubidge (2005), Bourget and Anderson (2011) and Schoch (2013).
