Archaeonectrus was named by Novozhilov (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: J l]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Pliosauridae by Carroll (1988); to Plesiosauria by Sepkoski (2002) and Ketchum and Benson (2010); and to Rhomaleosauridae by Ketchum and Benson (2011), Benson et al. (2012) and Benson and Druckenmiller (2013).
