Taxonomy
Batropetes was named by Carroll and Gaskill (1971). It is not extant. Its type is Hyloplesion fritschia. It is the type genus of Brachystelechidae.
It was assigned to Captorhinomorpha by Carroll and Gaskill (1971); to Batropetidae by Carroll (1988); to Brachystelechidae by Carroll (1991); and to Lepospondyli by Maddin et al. (2012).
