It was assigned to Megatheriinae by Hoffstetter (1954), Paula Couto (1956), Gaudin (1995) and De Iuliis and Cartelle (1999); and to Megatheriidae by Spillmann (1948), Hoffstetter (1952), Carroll (1988), Cisneros (2005), Salles et al. (2006) and McDonald and Naples (2007).
