Procynodictis was named by Wortman and Matthew (1899). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Caniformia by Flynn and Galiano (1982); and to Miacidae by Wortman and Matthew (1899) and Flynn (1998).

Synonyms

Plesiomiacis was named by Simpson (1945) [named as subgenus of Viverravus by Stock 1935b; raised to genus level].
