Eurhinodelphidae was named by Abel (1901). Its type is Eurhinodelphis. It is the type family of Eurhinodelphinoidea.
It was reranked as the subfamily Eurhinodelphinae by Trouessart (1904) and Hay (1930); it was reranked as the subfamily Eurhinodelphininae by Miller (1923); it was synonymized subjectively with Rhabdosteidae by Barnes et al.
