Taxonomy

Palaeoctonus was named by Cope (1877). It is not extant. Its type is Palaeoctonus appalachianus.

It was assigned to Megalosauridae by Hay (1902); to Anchisauridae by Huene (1902); and to Parasuchia by Huene (1921).
