Geography
Country: Ecuador
Coordinate: 0° 39' 3" N, 76° 22' 42" W
Coordinate basis: stated in text
Geography comments: "in the Yasuni National Park"
Environment
Habitat: tropical/subtropical moist broadleaf forest
Protection: national/state park
Substrate: ground surface
MAT: 26.0
MAP: 3000.0
Habitat comments: "The park contains extensive areas of primary forest and is inhabited by indigenous groups... Trees reach canopy heights of 30-35 m and emergent trees higher than 50 m exist in the area. The most abundant tree species in the park is a palm, Iriartea deltoidea... Weather is tropical and humid. Rainfall and temperature are aseasonal"
Methods
Life forms: butterflies
Sites: 4
Sampling methods: no design,baited,other traps
Sample size: 474 individuals
Years: 2002
Days: 11
Nets or traps: 48
Net or trap nights: 528
Sampling comments: "Butterflies were successively sampled using Van Someren-Rydon traps.. baited with shrimp (Penaeus vannamei Boone 1931) that had been fermenting for 11–20 days... Using a hierarchical sampling design, four sampling sites were located within four 1ha-plots of undisturbed forest (Fig. 1) near YSRS. The distance between two neighboring plots was over 500 m and all sites were similar in terms of altitude (400– 450 m) and topography. At each site, three baited traps were set up at three different strata, understory (1.5 m), intermediate (10 m) and canopy (20–27 m)... All 48 traps (4 plots × 4 sampling points × 3 strata) were checked daily during the last 11 days of each month from April 2002 to April 2003"
