Geography
Country: Chile
Coordinate: 34° 29' S, 71° 10' W
Coordinate basis: estimated from map
Formation: Laguna de Tagua Tagua
Time interval: Late Pleistocene
Max Ma: 0.01138
Min Ma: 0.010578
Age basis: radiocarbon (uncalibrated)
Geography comments: there are uncalibrated dates of 11,380 +/- 20 and 11,000 +/- 250 ybp on the same sample of charcoal; 10,578 +/- 48 ybp on "charred megafauna bone"; and 10,738 +/- 43 on charcoal
calibrated dates are definitely Late Pleistocene
calibrated dates are definitely Late Pleistocene
Environment
Lithology: siltstone
Taphonomic context: human accumulation,lake deposit,paleosol
Archaeology: bone tools,stone tools
Habitat comments: the formation includes "lacustrine greenish, brownish and grayish massive to laminated clays and silts with some diatomaceous inclusions" and TT-1 "cultural materials and faunal remains were mainly recovered at the base of member 6 in which a discontinuous paleosoil was detected, but also at the top of the member 5"
Fig. 1 indicates that the sediments are clayey silts
"Lithic tools and debitage, as well as bone tools were discovered spatially associated with fossils... Montané (1968) also mentioned several bone tools made on horse bone, including flakers. No hearths were detected, but scattered charcoal spicules were found. In sum, all the evidence suggests a short-term camp in which mammal-processing activities were carried out... The anthropic marks observed in horse and cervid bones suggest that these taxa were culturally deposited"
