"The Varanus vertebra originally described by Gaudry, 1862a, Gaudry, 1862b, Gaudry, 1862–1867 originates from one of the classical excavations and lacks precise stratigraphic data. The UU specimens originate from Chomateri, some eight and ten meters above the level with large mammals, and were collected during two field seasons, by H. de Bruijn and R. Rumke in 1973 and H. de Bruijn in 1974"
