Geography comments: "about 5 km southwest of the town of ApiaĆ, upper Ribeira River valley" (coordinate based on ApiaĆ)
"it is possible that its extant taxa are Holocene in age" but there is no direct support for this hypothesis, and "Specimens of Catonyx cuvieri and Smilodon populator... provided 14C AMS ages of 10,800 (BETA 230974) and 14,580 (BETA 183566) years BP respectively"

Environment
Lithology: claystone
Taphonomic context: cave
Habitat comments: "The deposits in the cave are mainly composed of black to reddish clay associated with larger clasts of limestone, filite, and calcite crust... likely sources of bioclasts are (1) the fall of animals into the natural trap, (2) floating carcasses or (3) isolated specimens of animals that died upslope and were washed into the cave, and (4) the animals that lived and died inside the cave. Based on the discussion above, we believe that most of the recovered material entered the cave from the third source"
Methods
Life forms: bats, carnivores, primates, rodents, ungulates, other large mammals, other small mammals
Sampling methods: quarry,screenwash
Sample size: 320 specimens
Years: 2001
Sampling comments: "collected during September 2001... Along with the blocks of sediment containing the micro-remains, macrofossils were recovered from the bottom of the cave, but no stratigraphic or taphonomic information was recorded... The blocks of sediment were disintegrated in water and screen-washed using a 1 mm mesh"
