Geography comments: "in six tropical dry forest fragments and adjacent pasture habitat in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, department of Co ́rdoba"

Environment
Habitat: tropical/subtropical dry broadleaf forest

Altered habitat: fragment

Substrate: ground surface

MAT: 27.0

MAP: 1463.0

Habitat comments: "The climate is semidry with a substantial reduction in rainfall during the dry season (from November to March)" and sites are in "tropical dry (evergreen and seasonal) forest"

Methods
Life forms: lizards,snakes

Sites: 15

Sampling methods: line transect,hand capture

Sample size: 276 individuals

Years: 2006

Seasons: dry,wet or monsoon

Sampling comments: "For the selection of the fragments the criteria were: (1) the fragments must be completely surrounded by pasture matrix and create an abrupt contrast with the forest edge, (2) the size and shape of the fragments must be sufficient to set up at least two independent 250 x 50 m pasture-edge-interior gradients, perpendicular to and on either side of the physical edge of the fragment... A total of fifteen 250 x 50 m pasture-edge-interior forest gradients were set up... In each habitat (pasture, edge and interior) we set up four permanent linear transects 50 m in length and parallel to the dry forest edge at set distances in the pasture (-100, -65, -35 and -5 m), at the forest edge (1, 7, 14, 20 m) and in the forest interior (50, 85, 115, 150 m)... Data were collected twice during the wet season (May and August 2006) and once during the dry season (December 2006). Each gradient was sampled three times by one person for 8 h (0800–1,200 h and 1,800–2,200 h)... We surveyed the reptiles along the transects by visual encounter surveys (VESs)... All individuals were marked on the dorsum with distinguishable nail polish"
