Kemiklitepe (KTD)
Basic information
Sample name: Kemiklitepe (KTD)
Reference: S. Sen, L. de Bonis, N. Dalfes, D. Geraads, and G. Koufos. 1994. Les gisements de mammifères du Miocène supérieur de Kemiklitepe, Turquie: 1. Stratigraphie et magnétostratigraphie. Bulletin du Muséum national d'histoire naturelle 16(1):5-17 [ER 4011]
Geography
Country: Turkey
Coordinate: 38° 20' N, 30° 35' E
Coordinate basis: stated in text
Formation: Ahmetler
Time interval: Late Miocene
Zone: MN11
Section: Kemiklitepe
Unit number: 1
Unit order: below to above
Max Ma: 8.125
Min Ma: 7.701
Age basis: paleomag
Geography comments: in the "département d'Usak" about 1.5 km south of Karacaahmet
from the Balciklidere Member of the Ahmetler Formation, which is predominantly fluviatile and includes "sédiments allant des conglomérats à des calcaires"
the Kemiklitepe section includes two fossiliferous levels: KTD in the lower, KTA and KTB in the upper
the authors attribute KTD to MN11 and KTA/B to MN12 or MN13, but Kostopoulos (2009, Palaeo3 274:82-95) assigns KTA/B to MN12
the section spans five magnetozones, two reversed zones being embedded (Fig. 5)
the five are interpreted as spanning C4n.2 through C3Bn on the basis of biochronology
Kostopoulos (2009) interprets the zones as C4n.2 (KTD) through C3Br.n2 (KTA/B)
based on Ogg (2020), these are respectively 8.125 to 7.701 Ma and 7.499 to 7.456 Ma

Methods
Life forms: carnivores,ungulates,other large mammals
Sampling methods: quarry
Sample size: 168 specimens
Years: 1989, 1990
Sampling comments: excavations were during 1989 and 1990
there were attempts to screenwash the sediments, but no satifactory results were obtained
