Sampling comments: "Longworth live traps were used in two areas... One hundred trapping stations were marked by states placed in 10 rows of 10 stations each. Stations were 50 feet apart. Generally 40 to 50 live traps, one at a station, were set during one trapping period. Snap traps were used once for a period of five days on a square grid of the same dimensions as the live-trap grids. The major portion of the material was collected on two trap lines... Each line consisted of two parallel rows 400 feet apart, of 20 stations each. Three Victor snap traps, baited with a peanut butter-rolled oats mixture were set at each station in a triangle" and "operated alternately at intervals of six to eight weeks for three days at each period... The two census lines were operated from April, 1959, through July, 1961, with a total of 16 trapping periods" (total trapping effort 45 x 3 x 16 + 100 x 5 + 2 x 2 x 20 x 3 x 16 = 6500 trap nights)
