Geography
Country: Japan

Coordinate: 38° 56' N, 141° 8' E
Coordinate basis: based on nearby landmark

Geography comments: "on the middle terrace of the Kinryu River, approximately 10 k south of Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture" (coordinate based on Ichinoseki)
there are 14 14C dates,of which four are anomalously young and the others range from 11690 +- 360 ybp to 36300 + 1910 - 1550 ybp (not clear if these are calibrated because the first error is symmetrically distributed and the second isn't)

Environment
Lithology: peat

Taphonomic context: fluvial deposit,human accumulation

Archaeology: bone tools,stone tools,other artifacts

Habitat comments: "an open-air site... The Middle Terrace... is comprised of sand, silt, gravel and peat and is approximately 4 m thick... Floral and faunal remains were found on the Middle Terrace... in four peat layers (primarily from layers 3 and 4) that alternated with strata comprised of sand and clay" and the assemblage is "best considered an allochthonous accumulation of fluvial transported bison carcasses, at least some of which were procured and processed by hunter-gatherers"; there are a few stone, bone, and wood tools
