Methods
Life forms: ants
Sampling methods: line transect,baited,pitfall traps,other traps,hand capture
Sample size: 188 individuals
Years: 2004, 2005
Sampling comments: "samples were collected two times a month, from December 2004 to December 2005, along a linear transect of 100 m. For each collection we used traps baited with protein (tuna) or carbohydrates (peanut butter) and pitfall traps, in addition to leaf litter samples and manual collections. In total, 24 samples per site were collected in a year... We used 16 baited traps in 4 vertical strata for each site: 4 in soil (2 traps baited with tuna and two baited with peanut butter), 8 in the scrub layer (4 baited with tuna and 4 with peanut butter) and 4 in the canopy layer (2 baited with tuna and two with peanut butter). The baited traps were installed in the morning and left for 24 h. A total of 1 536 baited traps were used in the study (16 traps×4 sites×24 survey samples). The pitfall traps consisted of plastic 250 ml cups filled with antifreeze placed at ground level for 15 days. Four pitfall traps were used for each site, for a total of 384 traps (4 traps×4 sites×24 survey samples). In addition, every 15 days we collected 4 leaf litter samples (1 m2) per site, which were subsequently placed in Berlese funnels (Martin 1977), resulting in a total of 480 litter samples. Finally, we performed manual collections of 20 min durations every 15 days, for a total of 32 h of observation"
